2X OR 4X Leupold for 44 Red Hawk

Hey guys I'm picking up a 44 mag Red hawk it will come with either a 4x or 2 x Leupold pistol scope.For hunting and just shooting what would be the best choice.All shots 100 yards and under.The price is only $20 bucks more for the 4x compared to the 2x.What do you think???.
Shoot once and carry a sharp knife.

after years of 2x.. THE 4X IS THE THING...  I would also consider the 2x7x32 burris as it covers all the bases and has a bigger objective which is why the 2x is not as serviceable as the four power..
I took all mine off and they are gathering dust rite now, after getting one four power..

  On the .44 revolver I like the 4x. It has enough power for the 44. The 2x seems to make the target SMALLER to ME, your eyes may be different. I can put the cross hairs on a soda can at 100 yards with the 4x. I have to spend some time trying this with a 2x. You can see a deer in the brush better with a 4x than any 2x. you can also see a little better LATER in the evening with a 4x. As I said before, YOUR eyes may be different than MINE. Some people don't like the weight of a scope on top of a revolver. Others see no reason to scope one. I think You will find what YOU like after a few shooting sessions with the new gun.

Hey buddy.. check out the classifieds for a 2 x 7 burris... or other scopes possibly.. I have no problem with used scopes ...
good luck.. I am offering a price on the 3 - 12 offfered there, but it would be great for you too.. unless you want the smaller size and weight of the leupold...
How much are you paying for a leupold... I may have one in two power.. if you decide to go with that.. though I do not recommend it..

Go with the 4x as stated above.  I have pistols with both and the 4x gives you that extra light and magnification.

Along with the added magnification of the 4X you'll see more shake and the field of view will be less in the scope? You could always get the gun with the scope that's most desirable to you, then take it off and possibly sell to lower your output? Just some things to consider?
I always thought it was next to impossible to own a handgun, in Canada?

We can own handguns,to collect and shoot at the ranges but we cant hunt with them in Canada.I wish. I wouldn't need a rifle any more.
BUT I can go down to my cousins in the Great USA for a whitetail hunt.
There's alot of paper work to bring my guns but dam I always wanted to shoot a deer with a handgun.
You guys don't know how lucky you are.

ps took the 4x Leupold,  seller said if I didn't like it I could trade it for the 2x.
sunday off to the range to see how it shoots,240 gr.flat point hard casts.They should do the trick.

I would recommend the 2X, especially if you have not shot a scoped handgun alot. Your field of view in a handgun scope is not near what it is through a rifle scope. The 2X is easier to carry and faster to find you target in. You will never shot at a deer that is to far away to get a good point of aim with a handgun and a 2X sope, if you do the deer was way out of range. I shot a deer last year at 289 yrds., lazered, with my muzzle loader with a 2 1/2X scope and had no problem with magnification.

I went with the 2X on my Red Hawk. It's steadier, doesn't weave around as much as a 4X. If you always have a rest you wouldn't notice so much. On my rifle caliber pistol I use the 4X cause that gun has better longer range capability.

I'm stunned to see so much praise for the 4x scope on a gun that will principally be used for quick shots within 50 yards. Get the 2x. Speedy target acquisition matters a lot more than magnification in the handgun hunting game within 100 yards.

I'm with the 2x shooters. Distances with a handgun aren't that long of shots, like you say, usually under a 100yds. And, at least for me, it's easier to pick up the target in a 2x than anything stronger.  gypsyman

I've owned 2x, 4x and a variety of variables over the years. Without a doubt, the 2x is much easier and faster to get on target. Making hits at 100yds and beyond is not that difficult with a 2x scope.

The only high magnification pistol scope that I currently own is a 2.5x8 Nikon that I put on a SRH. I use it for developing accurate loads while eliminating the poor performance that is caused by poor sight alignment with my aging eyes. On 2.5x it is fairly easy to get on target. At 4x it is noticeably slower and more difficult. At 8x it is nearly impossible to maintain a sight picture and is all but unusable, even at the range where I've got all the time in the world.

If you're shooting a "hand-rifle" rather than a traditional handgun, and have plenty of time to lay your rig across sandbags or similar, than more magnification would be usable without making target acquisition a problem. For all other applications I strongly recommend 2x.
