ANy sites or experts know best way to skin an quarter?

Im looking for a site that shows and tells the best way to skin the beast. I have heard you should give them a diesil or kerosene bath in the summer to get rid of the bugs and fleas. Put Meat in vingar and water let soak for two days is anouther one any good advice?

Forget that advice. BAD IDEA! you do plan to eat it right? Do you REALLY want it soaked in diesel or kerosene before you eat it? Nope. Me neither.

It is good if you can get it somewhere to use a hose pipe to wash it down before you even begin to gut it and for sure before you skin it if at all possible. After that just do it like you would any other game animal.

Kevin over a TexasBoars.com has done about as many as anyone I know and sure is fast at it. Dunno if he has any directions on his site or not but I'm sure he'd be happy to answer any questions you might have if you have specifics to ask.

As to meat none of that should be necessary. I just treat it like any other meat from a game animal and process it accordingly. Unless you chase it with dogs or make a really bad shot and it takes a long follow up the meat should be just fine without all of that extra effort.

I'm with Graybeard here.  Just skin 'em and quarter 'em like a deer.  If anything the meat's even better; not dry and with plenty of fat.  We love ribs on the grill with a bit of honey/whiskey/BBQ sauce.

here is how i do it

after  feild  dressing  the  hog   I  get  him  out  of  the  woods  as  fast  as  possible    i  hang  him  in  the  tree   by  his  head/neck  and  hose  him  off  real  well  on  the  insde  and  outside   i  then  take  a  super  sharp  knife    and  make   a  cut  right  along  the  back bone   and  cut  around  all  fpr   first  joints  on  the  pigs  lige   i   gut  the  skin  about   2  inchews  below   the  rope  and  start  pulling  down  as  you  cut.   the  pig  is  greasy  so  i  use  a  fillet  glove  it  seems   to  grab  the  skin very  well as  you  pull  down   or  cut  horizontal slots in  the  skin   to  use   as   leverage  to  pull  down   i   i  pull  down  until  all  skin  is  gone   i quaeter  the  2 front quarters    then   the  2  hind quarters   i  remove  the  back straps   and  then do  the  ribs   i  take  in  side  and  wash  it  off  in  cool  water   then  put  it  in  big  bags   to  chill  for  a  day  or  2.   on  boars  i  soak  in  milk  or  italian  dressing   for  a  day   i  have  ate  boars.   that  had  no  wildness  taste  to  it   but  a  couple  were  pretty  strong    hope  this  has  helped

Thanks , I would never put gas or chemicals on the pig but I hear the fleas are pretty nasty in the summer. I appreciate you post if you run across any how to stuff send it my way . I think my first one will have to got to the butcher shop i want some sausage and dont know how to make it myself.

 Im ready to just gotta get the meat!

actually  making sausage  is  very easy.   I  like  pan  sausage   so  i  looked  in  the  cabelas magazine  and   bought  a  hand  crank  grinder   very  cheap   and  some  sausage  seasonings  grind  it  up and  ad  a  60 - 40 mix   o   bee  and  sausage  a  wild  hog  is  not  that fat  so  i  always  add  bee  to  mine  i  use  the  trimmings  and  grind  them  up  they  also  have  link  sausag  makers  and  you  can  get  casings  from  a  meat  market   beng  i  am  on  a  low  ncome  i  tend  to  do  it  myself    as  i  could  not  afford  to  have  it  done  i also have  some  net  idias   on  mounting  pig  heads and  making  displays  out  o  them

so far this year, including the 11 I had in the trap yesterday afternoon,  my wife and I have pulled about 60 hogs out of the traps.  Total for the 5 years trapping the same 183 acres , well, I've lost count.  Out of all those hogs I have only found fleas a couple of times, and ticks  only a couple of times.  As GB and others said,  give a good bath and skin and quarter like any other critter.  If the weather is warm or hot, I would recommend field dressing them immediately if not sooner and then get the hide off to cool the meat as quickly as you can.  SO if you get a monster with awsome cutters, don't drive around with it in your pickup bed to show it off, if you plan to eat it.  Other wise they can be handled like any whitetail you kill.

If you happen to get a boar, hang it head up as soon as possible, and remove all traces of sex. I start a long, inverted,V-shaped cutout from 6" above the *****/sheath, gradually widening to the inside of the thighs, well outboard of the testes, then around the rump, and terminating at the anus. Don't puncture the abdominal cavity, just go skin deep until you get to the pelvis. After all traces of sex are removed, I wash the animal, hands/gloves, and all utensils before dressing further. By doing this, I have never had a boar hog have that "rank" smell when cooked, nor is it ever strong-tasting like some I have had. This was a trick taught to me by a Mexican ranch hand, down in South Texas. It works!>>>>>>>>>Bug.
