Buckshooter

Hey guys I have an SKS and or 7.62 by 39 rifle with a scope on it. I was wondering what kind of patterns do you get at 100 yards, 150 yards, and 200 yards. Also what kind of ammo do you use.

i have a ruger m77 in x39.

havent run very many rnds through it (prob less than 100) buit when i shot it i remember getting around 2" (2-1/2" max) 5 shot groups at 100 yd. with wolf steel case.

not too bad imo, not a "target rifle" performance for sure, but pretty respectable for crap ammo imo.

buckshooter:  your standard SKS rifle with standard mil-spec ammo may get you 3-4" at 100 yds with open sights.  Good ammo should group a bit better, maybe 3-4" at the same distance.  The triggers on the SKS rifles are near abominable and definately not set or 'set-able' for target work although you can send your trigger group out for 'tuning' or buy another and tune it yourself.  A third problem with the SKS is the lack of a really good stable scope mount.  I understand some folks have taken some of those that replace the rear cover and have added adjustment or tightening screws to better stablalize the scope and if you can work that you might be able to drop your groups to around 2" at 100 yds.  This is nothing to sneer at for a military rifle and gives you the kind of accuracy that will allow you to maximize the effectivenes of that caliber if you are using it for whitetail and the like.

I have found Sellier and Bellot and Tiger Gold (Wolfe??) to shoot pretty well in my rifles.  JMTCW and HTH.  Mikey.

just got me a Norinco sks.  Had some "stuff" that had been laying around for the past 15 years, (really, no lie).  Went to the range and gave her the old try out.  Boy, am I impressed.  Haven't done any serious shooting in over 2 years, been a real drought.  Got gray hair, wear bifocals, the gun's trigger is really really terrible, if those things are called sights, then I KNOW I'm going to win the lottery.  Used a sorta rest, well it held up my left arm.  This old gun shot a very nice 6 inch group for 50 plus rounds at 100 yards.  I can't wait to start working on it.  This thing is a real shooter.  I think the first thing I'm going to do is put a tech-sight receiver sight on it.  That should really help.  Then from what I hear there is a fella down in Texas that does a real good job on triggers, so I'll probably do that after the sight.  I wouldn't be surprised if this thing doesn't end up at about 1.5 to 2 incher.  These things are real sleepers. :o :o :o

Got me a yugo sks that someone "honest" not me cut the launcher off of and it is cut at an angle , got me  one of them scope mounts that replace the regular receiver cover and fits very tight almost too tight , has some very cheap scope on it , with either wolf 154gr sp or sapsan 120 something hollow point I get about a 4 inch group at 100yds
