PJ,

Try RL-7 and 265 gr. Hornady FP. It shot really well for me, not to mention that RL-7 drops through a powder measure really nice.

You might want to re-chronograph that load with 4895.  IMR lists 56 grains at 2200 fps for a 240 gr out of a 24" barrel.   Going to be tough to get 2400 fps with a 300 gr with less powder and less barrel...

Point taken.  No offense meant.  Simply replying based upon what had been personal experience to this point.  Your rechambers simply prove the exceptions to the rule.

Holy Crap 2200 fps with a 240gr out of a 24" tube!!!! I would say the 444 is worth every bit to rechamber sence my 14" 444 will do 2156 fps with 240gr XTP's and only 47.2grs of H-4198.

The only load that I have fired from my 44 mag. - rechambered to 444 Marlin is:

CASE: Remington nickel plated
PRIMER: Federal large rifle - Bench Rest
POWDER: H-4895  53.0gr.
BULLET: Hornady 300gr. XTP
VELOCITY: 2400 fps.
ACCURACY: 3-shots / 1 inch @ 100 yds.

DAVID :)

:)  :)  :) I don't think so :)  :)  :) H-4895 Max load is 50.0grs C for 1931 fps out of a 24" tube. You are 3.0grs over MAX my friend  :-D By the way Blackhawk44 you said 56grs of IMR4895 for 2200 fps look at his post. He's using H-4895 not IMR there is just no way he is getting those velocitys. At lest not with any safety.

One thing that has become a must, is that I will no longer chamber for the 444 Marlin without a muzzle brake! Recoil is most fierce with 300gr. and 320gr. bullets!!!

DAVID

Let me see you :? ....say you or your 24 customers are using H-4895 and getting 2262 fps to 2418 fps with a 300gr bullet from a 14" tube that has a brake!!! Hmmmm..... that would make it about a 11.5 to 12" tube.Not...
