red dot scope for 223 Rossi
« on: December 12, 2006, 02:44:39 AM »
Hi guys
Anybody recommend a good red dot for the 223? Something in the $100-$150 range, or less if good Quality.
I don't like the idea of a regular scope that overhangs the end of the barrel and hammer.

The BSA Red Dot can be had for about $50 but they are not a good idea for a .223.The dot covers about 3 inches at 100 yards and does not lend itself to the acuracy of a .223.
I like the red dots and have one on my AK47.Fast target acquistion but not the best in accuracy department. You would be selling yourself short to put a red dot on a .223.Now on my .223 Rossi single shot I have a Simmons 3X9X40 and find it is a really good scope for this rifle.

The smallest dot size is 3MOA.That's what I was talking about. That's 3 inches at 100 yards.Nuff said.

Personally I only use a RedDot on 12ga Slugguns, Muzzleloaders, SKS, and pistols. Doesn't mean they won't work on anything else by any means, just that some calibers lend themselves to a fixed or variable scope with crosshairs.
How about a fixed 4X ?
These can usually be among the shortest/lightest/toughest scopes out there.
The over hang is only cosmetic and doesn't affect acuracy.

Thanks guys
Prehaps I should go with a regular scope. I have a martini cadet in 38 special with a red dot that is my ground hog and turkey gun, but my targets have never been long range where the size of the dot would be a problem. A low power scope might be what I need for distance.

been using the red dot on my 30-30  since i got it... at 200 yds is my limit as theres no modification.. but at that distance you still can just put the red dot on the bulls eye.. its gonna be within 2-3  inches and sometimes a lot better if theres no wind..,,at least for my gun.. i love my red dot..
the only rifle i ve owned that i could hit a deer on the move..
