primer carriers or conversion kit.

 I just got my huntsman barrel today. Now what Im wondering is  should I spend the money for a 25acp conversion kit or 15 bucks for the primer carriers.. Im new to the huntsman barrels. So any opinions are welcome

Other than the reduction in blowback the second big plus for the .25ACP conversion is that the breechplug can be removed with a standard hex socket instead of the goofy sloted screwdriver sort of thing that is required with the standard plastic carrier breechplug. Also when the plastic carriers are no longer available since they discontinued the Huntsman it is likely that .25ACP brass will still be available.

The primer carriers are reusable many times, I have some I have been shooting for three seasons now and lost track of how many shots exactly. You could buy up as many as you can find now and have them for a very long time.

I'm 66 years old and have arthritic fingers . The primer carriers work great for me . Plus , when I see the Orange Tab sticking out , I know there is a higher possibility of the gun being loaded !

I too am 66 with arthritis, and I'm going to stick with the primer carriers too.  I don't have, nor want to buy and store the equipment needed to clean and re-prime the cases.  Besides, I'd forget where I put all that stuff!!!  I believe that if the carriers too are discontinued, someone else will start making them.  People aren't going throw their rifles away.  In the worst case, you could do the conversion later if you had to.

I have an order in with NEF for 3 centerfire barrels and called them today to check on that and ordered three packs of .209 primer carriers.  That ought to last me 'til I'm too old to hold the rifle.  If they can't be had after that, my grandkids can hang my huntsman over the fireplace!

I shot my huntsman finally. I think I like the orange primer carriers. Easy to use with gloves on

My huntsman will not set off 777 pellets with the orange carriers and the win ML 209s. usually get a fizzle and a mess of unburned powder.
loose 777 works fine.  So why do you need a lower power conversion?

I don't know where your problem could be, my Huntsman gets perfect ignition with two 50 gr. 777 pellets and Winchester 777 209 primers and conical bullets.  For some reason, I had hang fires with Hornady Lock n Load sabots, but everything else shoots fine.  Other people tell me they've never had a problem with the Hornady sabots.  There you go, right back to the beginning..I don't know.

Since the potential introduction of Blackhorn 209 powder which only uses full power 209 primers I guess I will have to reconsider the use of the standard plastic carriers. I converted mine to the .25ACP breechplug but if the BH209 stuff is as good as they advertise I will probably go back to the carriers so that I can use the Federal 209 primers that I bought a case of when I first started this Black Powder thing. The Federals are way too hot for most of the synthetic powders, expecially 777 with the crud ring becoming terrible with them. I bought a bunch of the carriers when I got the rifle and never used them.

When I first got my Huntsman, I put over 50 shots on a single orange carrier (maybe closer to 100) before I bought the 25 ACP conversion kit.  Those orange carriers can last a long time.

When I place a patch on the ram rod and send it down the barrel and fire off a primer, I get a better burn pattern from the 25ACP than I do with a 209 (WIN) in an orange carrier.

I have done just a little testing with 777 pellets in the Huntsman.  After about a dozen shots I did not have any problems igniting two 50gr pellets with the 25 ACP conversion.  I prefer using 777 2fg loose powder.

For me, when I use the 25 ACP conversion kit the breech area is a lot cleaner and removing the breech plug is much easier.  I like to shoot so the shooting sessions are usually 20 shots or more, so cleaner is relative to how much you shoot it.    I already reload so adding a 25 ACP depriming and priming shell holder was minimal.  I also already had a universal depriming die.
