I need some assistance and advice, please. I have a desire for a single action revolver, preferably a 1873 model with a 4&5/8 or 5.5" bbl, in 45 Colt.
I have seen some of the Cimmaron Arms offerings and I think they are gorgeous. I saw one with the 'antiqued' finish and would have had it lock, stock and barrel if it had worn the bbl length I prefer - it had a 7.5" bbl. I have seen the EMF offerings and they are just as nice. I have seen an AWA offering in nickle and 44-40 and it was a smooth operator. Some of the EMFs I have handled felt rough but the gunshop owner says he provides 'action jobs' for smoother shooting. The Cimmaron was very smooth and Cimmaron offers 'action jobs' from the factory for those who shoot a lot of competition, so they have said......
The shop owner where I went is a EMF dealer and won't recommend anything else. He says the acids used by Cimmaron to obtain the antique finish eat the chamber mouths and destroys the forcing cone, resulting in accuracy loss. Cimmaron tells me the finish is applied externally.
I like the offerings by Cimmaron but am concerned about poor quality production.
Can anyone advise me one way or the other?
Thanks for the help. Mikey.
