Loose barrel
« on: December 13, 2002, 08:15:16 AM »
Hopefully you guys can help.  I recently traded for a barrel. Its a 14" 7mm tcu.  I installed it on my frame and closed the action. I thought maybe the grip was loose. What I found was the barrel is loose when the action is closed. I dont see anything else wrong with it and I put the rest of my barrels on the frame and they all fit fine.  What could have gone wrong here.  If I send it to T/C will they fix it even though I am not the original owner?  I will try it on another frame later.
Let me know what you guys think.

It sounds to me like the locking lugs are worn, or they have been altered. Yes TC will fix it for free, but you should call them first and they will probanly send you a new set of lugs. Easy to install and you won't be without the barrel for near as long. KN

:D Hey Cliff, it probably is the lugs. And TC will send them to you. If you still have a extra frame try the barrel on it. Sometimes barrels fit better on different frames for some strange reason. That pic I sent you of that 6" 30-30 is like that. That barrel will only work on that frame and it was original to that frame. Have tried it on several other frames and it just dont fit. That frame will hardly take other barrels either. Just a thought.
Have you got any deerpigs lately? :-D  later, norm

only one reason to love CA

The only reason that I love california right now is that I have access to Jim Henry, TC gunsmith master.   I just have him fit the lugs to the frame every time that I get a new barrel.  Keeps things going smoothly.  I would be up there at the silhouette range today but I got the stomach flu yesterday and still felt like crap most of the day.  But I am going tomorrow!!!  Just sold one barrel and scope on ebay to pay for the custom shop 24" ss 30-30 improved with muzzle brake.  Should be really fun.  Dan
