88 honda 300 cam chain adjusment
« on: May 03, 2008, 04:50:22 PM »
a buddy is bringing his 88 honda 300 over to work on and he wants the valves adjusted and the cam chain adjusted. valves are no prob but ive never adjusted the cam chain on one of these. i assume from the looks of it, yu just relax the adjuster and the spring will readjust then lock it down?is this correct or do youall know anything about it?any help will be greatly appreciated.

You're correct on the cam chain adjustment procedure , but if that doesn't solve it the chain is most likely stretched.

his prob was a lot of top end noise, took out the adjuster and it looked to be the automatic type of adjuster. his actual prob was lack of top end oiling. the pipe from the filter houseing to the rocker box was apparently plugged.i think his rocker bushings are fried. the top end quieted a little after we got oil to it but i think it was too far gone.no matter what we did it was still pretty loud up there.
