Shotgun Barrels On Rifle Frames
« on: April 01, 2008, 05:06:05 PM »
I called NEF today to check on a few barrels I wanted to add to my SB2 frame. Was thinking about a 12ga 3" screw in choke, a 26" 3" 410, A 30-30 and a 38-55 target. This is what I was told "12ga and 410 is in stock and no problem. The 30-30s are out until about JUNE or JULY, and the 38-55 is no longer made. Not worth sending in for two SG barrels alone. I have a fairly new 12ga so I decided to try it on the SB2 frame and it fit like a glove. The problem which I hadn't thought about was the shotgun has a straight stock and the SB2 has a high cheek stock. No matter what or how I mounted the gun you just can't get down far enought to sight the thing. So much for that idea. Guess I will send the shotgun in for the 410.
Just a reminder to those who may have had the same idea and like me don't want to change stocks each time they switch barrels.

One more reason to have more than one frame!  ;)

Concerning the 38-55, the Target rifle has been discontinued, but when I checked with Marlin on the accessory barrel in February, they had no plans on eliminating it then, things may have changed, or whom ever you talked to was confused by the discontinued rifle, misinformation is all too common sometimes when talking to CS employees. :-\

10-4 on the misinformation! I don't really need it anyway as I already have a MARLIN in 38-55. Just thought if I was sending it in I might as well add one more to the collection. You can never have too many guns!!!!!

I took a monte carlo stock and a hand planner , planed it down some and used sandpaper to round it up , then of course I had to redo the entire stock so it matched , works fine for me with scope or irons

Not all monte carlo stocks are the same, there's as much as ½"  difference in the height of the comb if you lay a bunch on top of each other and compare them, so a mc stock may work fine for some folks with iron sights, but others such as Lik2hunt need a straight stock even for a scope.  :o

The butt stock on the 45-70 below came on my 204 Ruger Handi, it works fine with the WGRS for me. ;)

It just didn't dawn on me about the difference in height of the two stocks.

The stock-frame combo I have is one of the Cinnamon lamanated ones.
