Mossberg 935 help
« on: April 12, 2008, 12:54:30 PM »
Anyone that can provide some advice please do. Gun is a mossberg 935. The action is locked forward, grab slide and pull back maybe a 1-2 inch but the bolt is firmly locked forward. Have removed the trigger assembly for a look, nothing noticebly wrong. The timing couldn't be worse, no gunsmith available to take a look at it and monday/tuesdays turkey hunt is pretty much destined to be ruined by this. Never heard of any action trouble from 935s.  Really dont want to have to carry another one of my guns w/ only 2 3/4in chamber. Any advice much appreciated.  ???

This may sound dumb/simple, but did you try pulling the trigger first before trying to open the action? My 835 won't open unless the trigger is pulled or the release lever is pressed.

Hope ya get it working. :-\

Yep, tried that....the 935 doesn't have any kind of release like that. Have had the gun for two years and this just came outa no where. Pretty depressing with it being the opening week of turkey season. Definitely the gun  best suited for that job in the collection.  :-[

Did you take the forend off and see if anything has binded up the action bars? You can disassemble the whole action by pulling out the handle (it's just held in by a spring and detent ball) Take off the forend and pull everything out the front. It could be the spring is out of adjustment.

When I first noticed the problem it was right after i had put a holo sight on it...i thought, "I wonder if they did something dumb like used screws that were too long?" But then I thought, na, they would have to know better than that. For curiosity sake I took the bushnell and the mounts off....action worked normally. So I took it back to the local sporting goods store and let them know what they did. They filled down the screws and apologized. I wish there was one local guy that knew what he was doing. The local gander mountain gunsmith is a jerk, worried only about what time he's gonna get home; and the rest have their moments too. Very irritating situation.
