Pietta Remy 1858 front sight.
« on: March 23, 2008, 10:46:15 AM »
Looking to replace the front sight with a fluorescent color site of some kind. Does anyone know if there is an after market sight like this made.? The old eyes are getting weary. :'(

Most of the available fluorescent sight fixtures would require cutting a dovetail or drilling and tapping. My eyes are also going bad on me, and I have gotten decent results by de-greasing and painting my front sights with bright nail polish or model paint. You probably have something around the house you can try, so it won't cost much to find out if it helps. Nail polish is harder than paint, and will need less future touch ups.

I had the same problem, and I used white typewriter correction fluid so I could clean it off easily in winter when shooting against snow.  My bottle dried up, and I don't even know if you can get it anymore.  It may be a relic.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

I settled on painting the front sight with some red nail polish. It worked out ok. :)

Glad to hear it worked for you.  For myself, it works well, is simple, cheap, and with a little acetone or nail polish remover on a cleaning patch, is just as easy to remove.
