Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle
« on: March 02, 2008, 04:11:52 PM »
Anybody using one of these to dispatch yodel dogs?   Looking for an autoloader in .223 for predator control,  plinking and home defence but don't want to break the bank.  Any suggestions?

If you are shooting at 200 yards or less you should have no problems. The Ruger is a great gun that will usually feed any ammo reliably.
One think.... the skinny barrel heats up fast and accuracy suffers. your best groups will be from leaving several minutes between shots

I`ve got a good friend that carry`s one for up close and personal work, I carry an AR for that. Usually when calling one will carry the up close and personal gun and the other a long range gun. They are also nice when your running them with dogs, you can miss them alot of time.

I carry a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle.  I try and keep my shots with it under 150 yards.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

They are very reliable, but not especially accurate.  But you can usually get it down to about 1.5-2in moa or better .by doing some adjusting.  By weighting the barrel with a recoil eliminator it will help a lot.  Plus there are gunsmiths that will help the trigger for about $50.  They are also bullit sensitive.  Mine likes light bullits.
If you google mini 14 accuracy you will get a lot of help.    And I read in forum posts that lots of ARs are not so accurate unless you want to spend $1k +.  Its not a bad gun, I've had mine for 25 years and shot it a lot, never has jammed.
