dixie slug loads chronographed
« on: April 03, 2008, 06:54:09 AM »
I got out and chronographed my dixie slug handloads  I was expecting 1075-1100 f.p.s.
I got  ;D 1160 average of 5 shot  with a 16 fps spread ;D ft/lbs that is 1494 I think either thornily stopping power or taylor knock out scale are better indicators of performance on game because  if you go by the foot lbs standard  a 45-70 and 22-250 are about equal  ???
on the thornily scale  my loads are 199   hornady 20 ga sst sabot  for reference are 125
taylor scale      mine 52              hornady 29

I stopped using that stupid ft/lbs energy method after I shot my first deer with a 54 cal muzzle loader. 425 gr buffalo bullet at about 1300 fps bang! plop, dead deer.

Good luck with that new load, sounds like a deer slayer for sure.

plumberroy.

What components did you use to make up your load?  I bought some of their slugs also but haven't loaded any yet.

How was accuracy?

Thanks,
John
