I don't see a problem with frequent .270 postings. Like the 30-06, .308 (and the entire .308 based family), and 7 Mag, the .270 is a cartridge that represents a performance benchmark, providing useful comparisons that help one to better understand the relative performance of a given cartridge. Though I am not a .270 fan, I am forced to admit that it is a cartridge with many virtues. It is, overall, a pretty balanced cartridge. For a person who does not handload, it is a very practical choice.
As a handloader, I think the '06 case is better served by superior bullets available in either .284 or .264. As a matter of fact, I am preparing to spend a significant sum to have a rifle built in 6.5-06. I fully expect that this rifle will quickly become my favorite, but I will still be forced to admit that I have gone to a lot of time, trouble, and expense to have a rifle that performs about like a .270. It could easily be argued that the guy who spent a lot less on his Big Box Store-bought .270 off the rack and a couple boxes of shells got a much better deal than I did and that he is much more intelligent and practical than I. In such a case, I would find myself sitting by the campfire, expensive chunk of custom rifle in hand, searching in vain for a clever riposte-- my most compelling reason to hate the .270!
