optima 12ga blackpowder turkey gun
« on: April 06, 2008, 01:28:59 PM »
Can someone give me some advice on different loads for my gun? I have been using the cva wads the ones you have to cut slits in to adjust your pattern. I am loading 1-1/4 onces of copperplated #6 and equal powder. I am using the turkey choke that came with the gun. The problem is there is too many holes in the pattern for me to take it hunting.  I have only been putting 3 to 5 pellets in the kill zone. I know that would be a dead bird but this gun should shoot better than that. Could it be the wads? Any advice would be helpful

I agree, You also didnt say what powder you are using nor what powder charge.  Sometimes bigger isnt always better.
