"Most" reproduction factory side hammers have a 1-48 twist, some have a 1-66 twist and still some have a 1-28 or 1-32 for saboted bullets...

It's not as simple as it was in the 70s and 80s...

Dixie has several Hawkens, do you have more info and have you tried looking it up on their website???

You could also put a cleaning patch on a cleaning rod and push down the barrel and get a good idea on the
twist on that particular Hawken...

In my Renegade 54 cal - I shoot a .530 ball and a .015 patch.... I can get a .018 down but it us really tight and on a fouled bore it gets even tighter.  The .015 seems to work the best.... but all bores are different and as for twist could not tell without knowing what you bought from Dixie... You could e-mail them and they will tell you for sure...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

I looked at the Dixie website...

The T/C, Traditions and Dixie .54 Hawkens have a 1-48 twist...

The Dixie Rocky Mountain Hawken has a 1-65 twist...
