Shooting the N-SSA competitive Mortar
« on: October 07, 2004, 05:37:14 AM »
One thing that struck me very quickly the first time I went out Ft Shenandoah...this is not a bunch of guys and gals all dressed up playing Civil War.

Mortar shooting is very serious competiton!

I have a ton of questions to ask you N-SSA folks.

First your loads.  What kind and how much powder are you using for the 100 yard match?

DD,
I shoot a 24 pdr. use 840 gr give or take a little(as req.)1 .f . I have found that the original charts for the mortar (found in any period manual)
are about 1 step short for our modern powder. If you follow the original sighting methods, you will do well.

GG - thanks for posting, it's always good to hear from someone who's not posted before (here).

We welcome you to post (or send to either of us for posting) pictures of your toys and fun-sessions!

just finished my confederate 24 lb.  mortar, i am shooting cannon grade because that is what i have a few pounds of at the time. tho it is burning very clean and i might keep using it. i am using anywhere from 1000 grains to 1105 grains due to rain and humidity.
