Madsen M47
« on: April 06, 2008, 01:23:20 PM »
At the gunshow yesterday I saw a fellow walking around with a rifle that caught my eye.  I took a quick look and thought it might be a Madsen, I was right.  It is a .30-06 made for Columbia, nice size, rubber pad, fantastic sights that are like the Mojo sights sold now.  It is a 5-shot bolt action with a split bridge, mid-bolt locking lugs, cocks on closing, a really neat safety on the rear of the bolt. I put a deposit down on it and will finish paying soon.  The price was $350.  Does anybody have any ideas on what it is worth, and any other information on it?  I may have to get rid of my Finn M27 to get it.

Stan,

What do you think it is worth?  I found some information on it and only about 5000 were made, so it sounds kind of rare.  I saw that it was the last military bolt action rifle since the semi-auto came to age.  I'm surprised that it is a cock-on-closing action!

I see them for anywhere from $375(last local sale I am aware of)to $500.Thing is if a part ever breaks where you gonna get another? There are none. It's a collector, not a shooter.

I had one back when I was in High School, sold it for $125.00. I remember it was a fine shooting piece and I really liked the sights. I wish I had kept it.

I have owned a couple of them years ago.  They are a nice light weight rifle that is well built.  Mine were both accurate and in nearly new condition.  Madson of Sweden made them for only a couple of years right after the war.  With all the surplus rifles around I wonder how they sold any of them.

I picked it up Saturday and gave it the mandatory bore cleaning.  There are just a couple of wood and paint dings, making it about 99%.  It has never had a bayonet mounted.  I hope to shoot it before this weekend's gun show.  If it goes to the show, I am thinking that $500 would be about right, what do you guys think?
