Help I got trouble!!!
« on: April 09, 2008, 11:12:17 AM »
Hey well I shoot three in quarter at 100 yards with AA2230.  Problem is sometime cannot get gun to open.  Primers sticking in pin hole.  I have to dry fire to push primer out.  Sometime there is hole in primer.  Help Help???? Just started shooting great and know this.  Starting to get flustered.

Wrong frame, using a rifle barrel on a shotgun frame will cause that, is it new or used?  Wrong primers, bad primers, too much pin projection, normal is about .035"-.040". Has the hammer been modified? That could cause it also.

CCI small rifle? Remove the barrel, cock the hammer, while holding the hammer, pull the trigger and hold the trigger all the way back, while lowering the hammer against the frame, this will push the firing pin out so you can measure the projection.

I started at low end without problem.  Went up .5 gr per 3 shots.  Three last sets had problem.  But they started shooting better to.

How'd the primers look before the trouble? Any cratering?

How's head space? When you put an unfired round in the chamber, is it flush with the chamber face or recessed slightly?

How's the barrel to frame gap when closed on an automotive feeler gauge blade or a couple thicknesses of aluminum foil? See the barrel fitting info in the FAQs on how to check it.

Hawk89, If you have any cci Br4 primers try them as they have thicker cups then the regular cci or the WSR primers. I use them with my 204 with a stiff load of Reloader 10x and haven't had any problems.

Tks Jack

Well good news I shot .75 with 3 shots and 100 yards with heavy wind.  I noticed the .204 like heaver loads near max at least with .32 V-MAX using AA2230.
Tried AA 5744 with 15 gr they didn't shoot well at all and left barrel dirty.

Here's a good article regarding primers. I'd suggest a different primer. Dave

Emailed federal and this what they said

Same as all others, the difference between  100-200 primers and the 205's is the cup thickness.

I will try with out with MAX in few days.
