Those prices sound WAY high to me based on what I've seen locally and what EMF does or at least did sell them for not so long ago. I decided to take a new look at what EMF is listing for these days and they are up quite a lot. I got mine from them for $300 back when I decided I wanted to try CAS. They shipped me both the rifle and a pair of handguns and I bought all three from them.

Now they list the rifles from $469.90 for the Hartford 1892 Lever Action Carbine, Blued Frame, 20" Round Blued Barrel, .45LC all the way up to $594.90 for the Hartford 1892 Lever Action Rifle, Stainless Steel Frame and Barrel, 24" Octagonal Barrel, .45LC.

EMF doesn't import the .454 Casull version that LSI does and I suspect it's gonna cost more for no good reason other than they figure folks will pay more with the MAGNUM title attached. I'm sure it costs them no more to make one chambered to .454 Casull than .45 Colt.

I've seen folks trying to get $450 for used ones lately but haven't noticed too many takers at those prices. Since that's right up there where new ones are selling for a used one likely should be a fair bit less. Based on EMF's asking prices I think Bass Pro is a bit high on them but not as much so as I'd have thought prior to looking up current pricing.

Sounds like they've gone up a little.   I'm thinking the octagon's are pricier than the round barrels.    I paid $420 last April for a .357  20" round barrel.

The local Gander Mtn in North Little Rock has a lightly used one for $479.  Guess They shot it and the recoil was a little to stout.  But really $479 for a used one way outa line.

While shopping for a Puma I also inquired about a marlin 1894....It also seems like a very nice rifle....Now i find myself rather torn....It sells for $469 in 44 mag....I can get a puma in 44 mag for $429, or i can get the puma in 454 for $539 which i initially wanted.....This is a tough decision...I guess the only logical choice here is to get both....lol

If you feel the need for a scope the Marlin is the way to go as you cannot scope the Puma. I don't guess I really see anything the .454 is gonna do for you the .44 mag can't but if ya feel the need get both. I have the Rossi in .45 Colt and .357 Magnum and the Marlin in .44 magnum in an old 336 made before they came back out with the 1894s. The Marlin is scoped and the stock chopped for my wife's use. The Rossi guns are bone stock.

I'm probably going with the 1894 for now....Inside 100 yards the 44 mag will kill anything here in the southeast....

Stumpy,

Bass Pro has quoted me the same price (479) for all calibers --- this DOES include the 454 because I inquired.

I kinda like the Puma better myself if you can get over the cheap wood stock. Not sure if the stock on the EMF is different.
Marlin is built like a tank, but it gives up it's western flare.

If you haven't looked at Legacy's website in a month or so, they have added new products with scope mounts and loading tube options on standard calibers.
Now I don't think Bass Pro will be able to get the new ones in though

They didn't tell me if they would order...They acted like they wouldn't.....For that matter they acted like they didn't even want to talk to me....I think from now on i'll stick with the smaller stores and pay a little more for service and they will order almost anything you want....

Bass Pro and Cabelas is like that to me too - perhaps they know because 95% of customers who ask to see a gun aren't going to be buying in the next 6 months.
The counter to that is - they may not buy today but may later

I think the vast majority of customers are just wasting the employee's time though

Bass Pro showed a few weeks ago they had 454's at their warehouse so it's not really ordering - they just need to ship it.

As to the small shops. I won't give the small shops around St. Louis the time of day because every single one treats new customers like dirt. So I'll be happy to save 50 bucks at bass pro, cabelas, or walmart.

It seems like all Lever Gun prices have jumped ...I recently purchased a 20in Barreled SS Puma in 454 ,and a older Interarms Pre-Safety in 44 Mag. and looking at Interarms Pre-Safety in 45 Colt...
I paid $500.00 OTD on the New 454 ..which wasn't bad..but thats a high price for a little lever gun,I remember getting a 336 or a 94 for $135.00 OTD I sold a Puma large loop in 357 Mag for $400.00 2 years ago ..wish I had it back.

When I bought my Puma 44mag it was one of the few places in town that actually had them.  There was a big push for them around here last year because they became legal for deer and all of a sudden everyone wanted to have one, myself included.  I read enough about guys having jams with the marlin 1894 that I didn't mind trying something else.  I got out the door with my 20 round barrel stainless steel brand new for 500.  I knew it was a little high but $.20 a round vs $3.50 a sabot can make up a lot of savings fast.  I have to admit that I am a lot happier with this little rifle than I ever thought I would be.  I like the simple iron sights and 10 rounds of 44 mag has plenty of power.

I know the prices stink, but unfortunately prices are only going to go up.

Since the big rush is over and it's out of season I've seen them around $450 ish.

I bought my .45 LC Puma at a local Gun shop .  Around $ 400 - $ 425 out the door .  Can not remember for sure .

Watch the Big 5 sales .  They had them on sale for less than that a month or so latter .   :-(

God bless

YES THE 454 WILL CHAMBER AND FIRE 45LC NO PROBELM....ITS KINDA LIKE THE 44MAG/44SPCL...OR THE 357/38SPCL...THE 454 WAS BASED OF OF THE 45LC...THEY LENGTHENED THE CATRIDGE ABOUT .100" SO IT COULDN'T BE CHAMBERED IN THE 45LC GUN....MOST PEOPLE RECOMMEND CLEANING THE CHAMBER FAIRLY WELL AFTER SHOOTING A BUNCH OF 45LC'S...THEY SAY IT BUILDS UP POWDER RESIDUE IN THE CHAMBER AND CAN CAUSE MORE EXTREME PRESSURES WHEN YOU GO TO SHOOT THE 454 ROUNDS OUT OF IT AGAIN...
