A bobcat set for coyotes
« on: April 14, 2008, 04:25:09 PM »
A couple of years ago I was scouting a big dry wash bottleneck area for coyote sign.In the process i saw a active bobcat toilet. There was lots of fresh coyote sign in that area also.I didn't set coyote traps as for sure I'd be releasing an early cat.I waited until the cat season opened, went in there and set it up.I set the toilet up then moved over and put in a big gaudy flag set.I used some exotic chicken wing for a flag and some real loud skunky cat lure.Due east of the flag set was a bottleneck of trails.I put 2 coyote gland lure and urine sets on the trails.I was chuckling to myself when I headed back to the truck.I could just see the coyotes pacing on those trails looking at the big flag set and smelling the lure.First check,2 coyotes sitting in the gland/urine sets.I took 6 coyotes before a nice tom was waiting for me at the set in the toilet.I swear those coyotes paced the trail then hit the flat sets.I haven't been back in that country since.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Yotero, about  the way things happen.  Never say never... remember making a   cat set  with trap bare and a few sticks under trap to keep from freezing and big one inch stepping sticks  for cat to step over on bare pan... First check  big ol yote!  Go figure...LOL...

Every year I trap I always have a few sets I put in that I end up grinning when I walk away. It's like you know what's going to happen there. Most of the time it works out like you planned but sometimes there is a surprise waiting for you.We don't have much of a skunk or badger population so there aren't a lot of "secondary target catches",how's that for political correctness.
