Corn and Gas Prices - San Antonio / Hondo area
« on: October 11, 2008, 04:18:46 AM »
Corn was $7.25 for a 50 pound bag at Mumme's in Hondo yesterday. ( Oct. 10th )
I saw it as high as $8.50 a bag there just a couple of months ago.

Gas costs coming down in this area right now.
$2.99 for regular is common, some at $2.89, and one down to $2.66 here
in San Antonio.
Oddly, gas costs have been lower in Hondo than most places here, especially at HEB and Wal Mart.
$2.78 a gallon for regular at HEB in Hondo last Thursday. ( Oct. 9th )

You guys are almost a dollar a gallon less than any price I've seen locally so far.

I watched a news report last night from B'ham, AL about gas prices in Alabama. They said that in the B'ham metro area gas prices are still holding much higher than in many if not most other areas of the state. In Tuscaloosa just 50 or so miles west prices are below $3 a gallon but not by much where as in B'ham prices are a little under $4 but not by much. They blamed it on the fact that gas in the tanks was bought at higher prices and thus until it sells prices will remain high. I doubt that since most eveyone has been out continuously since it started up and so I can't imagine anyone having much of a supply on hand.

In my area prices have dropped back down some but are still close to a dollar a gallon above the prices many are reporting for other states. The last price I noticed was $3.549 a gallon at a Chevron station near me. At least now it seems most have gas again unlike the situation up until a week or so ago.

I've not bought any corn lately but back in the spring I picked up a bag to feed the geese and ducks coming to my pond and it was almost double the price I had last paid for corn altho that had been a few years back.

Gassed up the tracker this morning for $2.79 a gallon, but diesel is till up around $3.88pg.

Corn around home is near $10 for 50lbs, but in Ozona it was just over $8. for 50#
Cybersniper, you ever eat at Hermann & Sons in Hondo?  I think that is the correct name, great steaks there on Hwy 90..

ethnanol is the biggest rip off your government ever did to you alcohol has less enery than gas therefore you ARE going to get less mileage and preformamnce out of it but all is well you'll buy more sooner and they get another round of your highway taxes. You are not doing the enviroment any good because now you burn more gas to get the job done, Growing corn damages the ecosystem as much if not more than oil wells.  Now your food prices go up because your burning food for fuel.YOU"VE BEEN HAD.

Gas hit $2.52 today at the Wal Mart in Del Rio. Local diesel prices are still averaging $3.50.

At HEB in Hondo it was $2.48 Sunday around noon time.

Just saw on TV that OPEC is now wanting to cut production in order to try
and stop falling prices. Just a few weeks ago, Pres. Bush was trying to get
them to increase production to help reduce costs.
Sure is funny how things have reversed so fast.

Gas now around $1.86 or so at the HEB in Hondo.
Corn running $6.95 for a 50 pound bag at Mummes in Hondo.
I hope the gas costs stay down, but doubt they will.
