Digging beaver?
« on: April 04, 2008, 11:58:17 PM »
Troy and I have a pond that we are trapping beaver in. In this pond the beaver are digging up Lily pad root systems and eating them. The roots are at least 2' deeper than the bottom of the pond. Also the roots are about 3'' to 4" diameter and are 3' to 4' long. They must have been just digging before we got there because the bottom of the pond is made of that black ooze that we all love, and it would have filled in a bit. We didn't catch any thing there yet but our sets were in cased in about an 1" of ice last check. Has anyone else seen this?

Yeppers, seen bvr eating lily roots alot.  Most likely easiest food available...  sometimes it is the preferance of the bvrs of that pond.   Beavers adapt and down south alot of them  eat pine bark and  oak also.... just like humans  differant bvr have diff tastes... BURP!    Castor mounds will work for them and if not   use a SMALL bit of sack oil, that usually takes the shy bvr providing they arent shy of  body grips if thats what your using, if so submerge your  body grip and put a floating stick at least two inches  or so thick right above your  body grip...good luck.. keep us informed.

I have a few areas, where lily pad roots , are big time beaver feed. It is hilarious to watch them eat the pads in the fall.Like giant potato chips.
