Knight Load for Fall Hunt
« on: May 21, 2008, 12:08:21 AM »
After some research I'm leaning towards a new load for next Fall. I have been using left over Pyrodex with a new can of 777 waiting to take over. My usual bullet has been a home cast 44 for a sabot or a 320 grn conical, also cast at home. I think I will try 100-110 grns of the new Blackhorn 209 under a Hornaday 250 grn SST sabot load. I am usually able to put myself in position for a 30-60 yrd shot, where just about any load would work when sighted in. I have an IL deer hunt in the works for next Fall & the choices are shotgun or M-L. I would like to be ready for a 150 yrd shot if it comes up. I would also like to have some relief from my cleaning ritual after I do get a shot. I know the Blackhorn cost a little more but it seems to have very good reviews.

It's getting terrific reviews when used in guns that fire it reliably.  Which Knight do you have?

Take one of these...

...some of these 250 gr Knight PBT/Barnes TMZ...

...some Blackhorn 209...

...and get these...

I have only shot these at 100, but I'm thinking these should be about dead nuts at somewhere around 150-160 yards. I will know before this fall. I think my slug gun is going to be a dust collector as long as this rifle keeps shooting like it has so far.

I have 3 Knight Disc rifles, 2 original with the orange disc, & 1 'extreme' with the red disc. I had bought a 2nd as a backup & the 3rd was salvaged after a partner had a fire. I bought him a new disc extreme with a fluted barrel & got a new barrel & other parts for the one with fire damage. The next time I go through a store with the balckhorn 209 I will pick up some.
