need cheap 308 win bullets
« on: April 23, 2008, 04:10:24 PM »
Want to load some cheap 308 Win for Handi.  Was thinking 150 Corelokts at $18/box.  Has anyone tried the Prvi Partizan softpoints?  They are a hair cheaper.

Looking for plinking load, but don't want to resight rifle if I take it for deer.

Blue

If you can pick them up for $18 go for it , or for cheap plunking loads look at the Magnus 165gr RNFPs in cast , they can be had for around $40 for 500 or even the 115gr RN for about $30 for 500 .

If you have a copy of the Lee 2nd Ed it has a couple of pages of cast 308 loads .

You will have to re-sight the rifle before deer season but you can do a bunch of extra shooting on the same $$s , just an idea .  ???

the 150 Corelokts are tack drivers in my Survivor. As for plinking ammo I dont normaly load plinkers for my hunting rifles under the thought that you practice with what you hunt. But I have been playing with the thought of some light cast loads for my kids. You may be able to work a load that will shoot to point of aim out to 50 yards with cast but at the longer ranges you would have to change your sights.

Western has a bunch of gas checked cast bullets that would run less than $20 shipped, he ships priority flat rate, so several hundred wouldn't cost any more for shipping.

Grafs has Berry's 150gr and Hornadys for cheap and only $4.50 shipping.

The Nosler 2nds shop has some cheap bullets too, the first bag wil cost about $10 shipping, but the rest don't add much if any, I usually get 200-300 for the same shipping cost.

They also have partitions for $26 a hundred if you just want to shoot the same thing all the time!!

Don't hesitate to google a search for the surplus powder suppliers. The sometimes have pulled FMJ's they sell cheap from their pulldown operations. Blue Star is a name that comes to mind for this.

I saw these and ordered 500 of them just this morning - and had planned to suggest the same, and saw that Tim was already on top of it..
