So a buddy of mine recently purchased a golf ball launcher attachment for his AR but the 223 blanks are next to impossible to find around here. Rather than ordering some he asked me if I could load them from soon to be retired brass. I told him, I'm not sure, but I'ld try to find out if it can be done. Anyone have any advise? Thanks.

Bet he'll get a lot of attention when he pulls his AR out of his golf bag on the first tee!!! Guess he'll yell "Fire" when he "Ts" off.  ;D
Ok------- got that out of the way. I believe military blanks are loaded with a special purpose powder, traditional blanks with black powder.  I would be concerned with the likelihood of damaging the rifle. Who knows what the pressure curve would be like with blanks loaded with available smokeless powders. The pressure curve would be critical, as any kind of muzzle mounted launcher would act as a partial bore obstruction at the muzzle. I'd have my friend order his commercial blanks, They have to be cheaper than golf balls, and as a bonus you get to keep him as a friend, and--------- stay out of court!

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I figured I might as well ask. Supposedly, this thing is will "drive" a ball 500 yards. He's already stocking up on range balls.

    Not sure why anyone would want to shoot golf balls from a quasi-grenade launcher, but on page 14 of the May 2008 catalog from Cheaper than Dirt (www.cheaperthandirt.com ) they show a golf ball launcher (item # ARR-225) (claim is only for 100 yards) and on page 10, they show the .223 blanks (item# AMM-016).  I still cannot imagine why anyone would want one, but there it is and there are the blanks to fire it.

Midwayusa.com also has the blanks in smaller packages
