Cankiller:  Conversions from the 45 to the 10mm require a complete upper slide and barrel assembly.  You should be able to obtain a complete slide from any number of sources including some of the major distributors and one of our sponsors, MidSouth Supply, or Brownells.  Barrels are up to your preference and can be obtained from distributors or individual custom barrel makers.  HTH.  Mikey.

By the time you purchase all the parts and the slide, fit the barrel and what not, it may be close to the price of just buying a 1911 in 10mm.
It's a worthy idea though, good luck.

who makes them new ?
some say colt is starting make a few ?
I have a Delta Gold Cup but want a carry gun . Was thinking the same thing about converting , tried a 400 cor-bon . NOT THE SAME !
Tried a Glock OK but not a 1911 , nice on rain days or when the gun may take some hits .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Shootall:  Lynnie is correct.  A new slide will run at $200, more for better.  A good barrel is around $100, putting it all together so it works properly - priceless, if you do it yourself but it may run a couple of hundred to get everything fit properly together.  Pricey possibly altogether.

I don't know of anyone who makes a Commander length 1911 in 10mm but full bore 10mm loads would recoil noticeably. Glock, Tangfolio, EAA, and others make 10mms in 5" but you would have to check their websites to see if they, or others, had other offerings

If you have already tried the 400 and found it lacking, there is one called the 40 Super (?) (Starline used to sell the brass).  I think it is a longer bodied version of a necked down 45 case with a shorter neck than the 400 and may be able to use heavier bullets.  I know that in the 10mm calibers, 180 - 200 gn slugs, even at moderate levels penetrate extensively.  A bottle-necked case design allows for the reliable use of (very) flat nosed bullets (swc), enhancing the calibers' 'authorita', especially in the field....

S&W made a full size 1911, but I am not sure they still do, you might give them a look HTH   Jim

Dan Wesson makes one.  I saw one in 45 and it seemed like a pretty nice gun.  The bobtail really gives the gun a nice feel.  Plus it just plain looks cool.  I would be very tempted if I saw on in 10mm

If Wesson still makes it I would go for it.
I had considered a 10mm for sometimes but I decided that it would not fit into my needs.
NEEDS: I want it and am going too get it  ;).
