For Encore barrels with sights, I like to be able to use the iron sights in addition to a scope.  There are two ways to do this:

1.  Use Quik Site see through rings though these put the scope a bit high for some tastes.  My 30/06 is set up this way and it works quite well.
2.  Use Warne bases with quick detach rings.  If you use Warne bases on other Encore/Contender barrels you acquire, this has the added advantage of being able to switch scopes between barrels easily.

I like the 24" Encore tapered rifle barrels.  I always remove the rear sight and mount a scope.  The sleeker tapered barrel is a true handy rifle.

I don’t like the heavy 26" or pro hunter 28" barrels on the Encore, why too heavy for carrying.

I feel a 24" tapered rifle barrel is perfect for any parent cases made from the 30-06 Springfield/308 Winchester cartridges.
