Tired of being cold and wet? Buy a mini truck.
« on: April 20, 2008, 08:52:57 AM »
I was surprised to find out a lot of people have not even heard of them before. We have a yamaha grizzly 450 that we use alot but there are just some days its to nasty outside to ride. Our oldest yellow lab cannot keep up running anymore and we felt bad about not taking her along because she lives for that stuff. I bought a 94 mistubishi mini cab and love it. They are half the price of a utv and come with many more features. You have full instrumentation with a heater and radio, the heater is a huge plus. 4wd, some with lockers front and rear and some have A/C. Mine has a 660 3 cylinder with a 4sp tranny with hi/low 4wd. I bought a 3" lift but the cv angle on the front was to steep so I cut an inch out of the front, so I now have 2" up front and 3" in the rear. I then purchased some nanco 6-12 tractor tires for it that mounted up on the stock wheels. We use it on our farm and it is great for hunting and they get from 40-50 miles a gallon to boot. When they are imported from japan they have a speed regulator on them but that is a easy fix, mine will do 55 mph easy. 6' bed with fold down side rails and a tail gate. Out of all the things I have put on it so far I am still under $5100, and that is well equipped.

Inside cab, trust me its not bad driving from the right side, it only took me 5 minutes to get use to it.

Lifted 2" up front and 3" in the rear.

New nanco 6-12 tires, most guys use atv tires but these have a higher load rating.

They are still no atv and have there limitations but within reason they are a great alternative to a $10,000 utv.

Better ground clearance now.

Still cheaper than my yamaha grizzly 450.

Recently a friend of mine was telling me about these little trucks.  I investigated the specs and was pleasantly surprised with them.  I'm probably going to buy a good one in the near future.  I can use my main boat boom, pick it up from the dock and set it crosswises on the deck of my 36' commercial fishing boat and take it with me.  I think I can get it registered in Alaska, so could use it in any state on the highway.  I think it is the ideal vehicle for my remote residence and can use it to gather firewood and splits to the storage shed.  Makes a lot of sense to me.

AAHH! Ive ALWAYS wanted one of these!  Can you imagine how fun that little thing would be with a Vtwin harley engine. Are they 4WD? Probably not. Our city uses them alot so I always see them on mainstreet.

Oh man they are 4WD! I got so excited looking at the pictures I didn't read the text.  I'm green with envy. Agreed, camo!

There are lots of websites selling these mini trucks.  Just go to any search engine and type "Japanese Mini Truck".  Yes, they come in all types of configurations with prices accordingly.  Some have 4WD, hi and low range, some with granny, and some with dump beds.  You can buy aux all terrain tires and wheels from most dealers for about $250, rims and tires.  The weight of these little trucks is about 1500-1900#'s, complete.  Makes a lot of sense for some conditions.  Remember though that these trucks are imported for off highway use and most states will not license them for it, even though they have all the required DOT equipment.  These do not meet the updated emissions required for all highway vehicle imports, so most states will not register them for highway use.

I travel alot for my job in Asia and you see these all over the place there. Places like Singapore, Pennag, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and even China. They are very common there and in other makes. They also make it in a van version as well. The van version would be very cool because you could easily fit 4 guys in it and all your gear.

I see those at the TTHA show in Houston every August.   Considered buying one, but needed to reach some places for hog hunting that those couldn't reach.  They do look pretty neat though.

i saw one for the first time in NC last year..very interesting. I planned on using it for off road and local beating around town and the bush. My rec land being about
5 miles from my house, would be a nice, short run, hunting woodchucks along the way..  Then I discovered there is no chance of registering one for street use..
and my off road use is not constant enough to justify buying one !
They are nice little trucks however..and the van is neat also..
