I was out rabbit hunt'in on our 20 acre desert property hear in central Oregon. I was carry'in my trusty 1947 Win M12 12ga Mod. I spooked a couple jacks way out of shotgun range. I then came into some thick sagebrush and saw a little furball(cottontail) runn'in through the brush in front of me. I could'nt get a clear shot with all the brush. He finnaly stopped but took off again before I could get the shot off. I lost him but made another pass through the brush to make sure. I saw him about 10 feet away under a bush. I quickly threw the gun up and fired. I then saw a huge plume of dust and an object fly out the other side of the bush. I went and examined that object, it was its head!!! It was perfectly blown off and the back of the neck looked like hamburger. The body was under the bush and it back legs were still poised to take off running again. I then measured the distance between the head and the body- 18 1/2 feet!!!
I have really have a good time hunting out there. There are litteraly thousands of cottontail/jacks, quail, coyotes, mule deer and have even seen a couger once. I also just took a nice jack yesterday with my Gamo 1250 airgun. Although I would have to say that I much prefer my CZ 452 Special .22LR for more knockdown on jacks. Speaking of which has anyone used CCI Quickshocks with sucsess? They sound interesting and thinking of getting some.
Thanks. I hope you enjoyed it
