Finally took the 527 Varmint to the range today...
« on: May 10, 2008, 12:35:12 PM »
and wow this thing can shoot!!!  It took me 5 shots to get it on paper and sighted and then I shot my first 5 shot group with Black Hills blue box 55 grain hollow points.  The 4 shots with the trigger set made a tiny little hole that measured 0.462" and the 1 shot without setting the trigger opened the group up to 0.484".  I tested 4 different factory loads, the Black Hills blue box 55 gr. hollow point, Hornady 55 gr. TAP, Hornady 55 gr. V-Max, and Remington 55 gr. Accutip.   The Rem Accutips gave the worst groups which averaged about 1 1/2",  the Black Hills gave the best groups averaging 1/2", and both Hornady loads averaged 0.62" for the TAP and 0.67" for the V-Max.  Overall I'm pretty pleased with this rifle and I'm looking forward to trying different bullets and loads in it once I get a proper scope put on it.

I have a Burris FFII Tactical 4.5 - 14 X 42 scope on the way to mount on the 527, this scope should compliment the rifle well and give me a better platform to shoot groups than the little bb-gun scope that's on it.

Pics coming soon.
