Opening Day Plans
« on: July 15, 2003, 06:48:01 AM »
What are your plans for opening day of trapping season. I plan to take off school and set the river up mainly for coons, but for rats and mink too if I find any sign.  I also plan to go ahead and set a few coyote traps behind my house. It is a big farm that I have permission to trap. There is a fence line that I snared last year and caught 5 coyotes off ofit. There is also two big cornfields right next to the river. I know coons will be in here and hopefully I'l pick up a few coyotes and fox there. I have a few other farms that are loaded with fur, but I want to wait till gun season for deer goes out. Don't want nothing stole, and definetly don't want to get shot. :D

Can't wait for SEASON TO OPEN :-D

Going to pass on my canine line until November, even though it opens on Oct 15th. Mostly private stuff, so no big hurry and would rather sell prime. The coons will also have to wait. I know some areas get decent coin for the early goods, but evidently not here and after last year, am guessing the unprime coon will bring even less. The only opener I will hit with any kind of serious effort will be the mink line in November. I've expanded a bit, and working full time will have me busting my rump for the 1st week to get it in. thankfully opener is on a Saturday for the water line.  Rats, aside for the incidentals on the mink line, (if rats are 85% of the "mink line" catch.....are they still incidental?) will have to wait for me as I did much better on my prime rats last year than I did on the early goods.

Can't wait!

I'm looking at a new job in N.D. My plan is to set coyote traps for about 10 hours the 1st of Oct. and for 2 more days after that. Then check everything and extend the lines.I know it is usually too warm for good fur movement but I can get my lines out ready for the fronts to move through.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!
