Where are the Savage Smokeless shooters at..

Well I have had my Savage smokeless for a little while now and have had some great accuracy with it.
Who else is shooting the Savage smokeless here.

I bought one a few weeks ago and have not shot it yet. Trying to figure out a load for 330 and 350 grain bullets in .458.

I have been using it strictly for deer hunting. I am using 195 gr. precision rifle dead centers with the duplex sabots. I am using Winchester 209 primers and 43 gr. of IMR SR 4759.

I am getting 1 inch groups at 100 yards and it is a pleasure to shoot. If I ever take it hog hunting or anything else, I will work on heavier bullets then.

I have been wanting one but with the new Blackhorn 209 I am not sure what I am going to do yet. If I do get one I probably will work up a light load and use it for hogs and just leave it at that.

I was a heavy duty Encore M/L fan and still am, but I sold all my Encore barrels. The Savage is just to easy of a gun to use and clean. I still have an Omega as a back up muzzleloader, it is brand new just waiting to go to the range. I will use the 250 gr. T/C shockwave bonded bullets in it with triple 7 powder and Remington kleen bore primers. They shot well in my Encores, so I am hoping they do the same in the Omega.

But my go to M/L is my Savage.

I bought a quantity of MMP .458 sabots to test since they claim to be very accurate and to perhaps use some of the same bullets I use in my 45/70. The thinner walls of the .458 sabots lend themselves towards concentricity and accuracy, according to some experts. I need to prove this to myself with some range time.

Awesome gun.  Mine really likes about 45 grains of 4759 and isn't too picky about bullets.

In one or two weeks I will have chrono and target results from a variety of loads all using A5744. I have sabots for .429 and .452 and .458 bullets. I have this rifle topped with a TC Hawken Hunter 1x scope since Wisconsin is a 1x state in regards to ML season. I have vast experience using 1x scopes in handgun competition and do not consider it a limiting factor. I have so many bullets in the named calibers I am unsure of what I will test at this time. I have disassembled and cleaned the rifle and added anti sieze grease on the breach plug threads.  I also obtained from a friend several plastic vials for various premeasured powder charges. I am almost ready!

I got one of the new wrenches that I don't have to remove the bolt to take out the breach plug. Works like a charm. I also got some vent liners that last 400 shots.
Anti seize grease will be your friend.

I am going to a muzzleloader course in June, it is an advanced course and goes toward my Master Hunter Program certification. We have to qualify with a muzzleloader to pass the course. I will be using my Savage in the course. I am already a certified Master Hunter here in Delaware.

I am still that big T/C fan and probably always will be. I am going to try to get a Savage Smokeless this year if all goes to plan.
