Need help pricing a Ruger Old Army
« on: March 03, 2008, 03:20:19 PM »
I recently picked up a 1970's era Old Army at a local auction.  It needs a bullet rammer, but otherwise is in very good condition.  I've ordered a replacement rammer from the factory, and am interested in selling the gun.  7.5" barrel, adjustable sights, no box or papers.  I know the new guns list for ~$500, but what should I ask for a used one in good condition?

I have a blued one with adjustable sights that I tried  to sell for $325 without luck. When Ruger announced they stopped making the ROA I took mine off the market

From the Fifth Edition (2007) of the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms, Page 169, a blued ROA in 100% condition is worth $550; 98% is $445, 90% is $350, 80% is $250. Of course, the BB is just a guide; prices can and do vary considerably in both directions. And those prices were before it was discontinued.

I bought a new in box Ruger Old Army blued with adjustable sights for $300 shipped just last year on http://www.gunsamerica.com/.  I have wanted one for over 20 years, but never wanted to pay the high prices.  I guess I was lucky to find a good deal for a unfired gun.  It will last me my lifetime and then some.
