Beretta 84 or 85 ?
« on: May 12, 2008, 05:58:54 AM »
I would like to order the beretta 84 or 85 . The 84 holds about 13+ rounds the 85 I think 8+ . For those of you familiar with theses models which one would you choose.? ,,and what do you think of the nickle version? Also would the 84 fit someone with small hands?

                                                                                               thanks for the info

HA!  Ya got a reply now ATR.  I seem to recall the 84 and 85 are double feed and single feed twins.  If you have smaller hands then go for the model with the 8 shot magazine.

I would choose the 8 shot model.  I don't need any more than that and I prefer the slimmer grip and more traditional Beretta look of the earlier M34.  HTH.

ATR:  You are more than welcome.  I also believe both are of the double action/single action trigger style with slide safety but not sure if you can carry cocked and locked.  I have always found that I am more accurate with the first shot from single action mode rather than double action and if I were to purchase one of the double action/single action like the 84/85, I would like that single action-slide safety capability as I have with the 1911s.

I have a older M70 which is single action only.  The slide safety is nice and positive and easy to release. Whenever I carry that sidearm it is cocked and locked.  I carry plain ball ammo.  One of the recent posts in the General Handgunning Forum quoted a recent FBI report as saying not to ever trust a hollow-point to expand.  The 380 is no powerhouse but it is effective.

Double action semi-autos and double action only semis and revolvers take a lot of practice to master for their intended purpose.  The Beretta is a well made pistol that will hold up to a lot of shooting although most are shot little but carried much.  If you don't think you will be practicing enough with a da/sa double shot technique where you place a double action and then a single action shot right on top of each other immediately,  then see how well you can do with a single action shot followed by another single action shot.  If you see an improvement in the single action technique over the other it will best tell you how to carry you chosen sidearm.

Each Beretta I own and have owned can be and have been carried safely in a chambered, cocked and lock mode and those I own are designed to function properly as such.  HTH.  Mikey.
