In the work I have done with .30-30 Winchester in both 10" & 14" Barrels, a 10" 7-30 Waters, and my current Super 14 .30-30 Ackley Improved, I would say that if you rechambered it to anything, the .30-30 Ackley Improved would be about the only choice.
My 10" 7-30 Waters lost about as much velocity (as compaired to published Super 14 data) as the 10" to 14" .30-30 Winchester lost. Given that I think a 10" .30-30 Ackley Improved should produce about the same velocities as a Super 14 .30-30 Winchester or slightly more (depending on the individual barrel).
Part of the reason I state this is from working with my current Super 14 .30-30 AI. This barrel just loves IMR-4198 with 125gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. Accuracy is great and velocity is more than I ever expected even though I am still under the published MAX listed in P.O. Ackley's Handbook. I have had good luck with IMR-4198 in 10" barrels over the years in that loads with IMR-4198 in the 10"ers seem to be about as shooter friendly as possible, but yet it provides good accuracy and velocity.
Is it worth the rechambering cost to have your 10" rechambered? I guess only you can decide that. Another item of note would be the existing chamber and throat's dimensions as to whether or not the chamber would clean up nicely. What would I do ? If it were my barrel, and the existing chamber was not oversized, I would have it rechambered. The reason is simple, I just plain like the .30-30 AI Cartridge, and after seeing how much velocity increase, and accuracy increase it offers over the standard .30-30 Winchester, I too would like to try one in a 10" Contender some day.
In the end it is you call, have fun making the decision, and good luck with what ever you end up with.
