Old army conversion cyl.

Anybody shoot jacketed bullets out of their old army conversion cylinder? I was thinking a low pressure load like unique or tightgroup at around 900 fps.

Hello,

I use an R&D Conversion on my ROA, but have only shot cast bullets through it.  I shoot medium power "Cowboy Loads" with 165gr, 200gr, and 250gr cast bullets no problem.  I would guess my reloads run 800 to 900 fps with 8gr of Unique.  With jacketed bullets pressure will run a little higher with lower muzzle velocity using a comparable charge of Unique.

For the most part R&D/ROA does everything I could ask of it with cast bullets.  I'll leave the jacketed bullts for my Buffalo Carbine and Blackhawk Convertible.

Thanks weasel, that sounds right. Maybe I need to start looking for a 250gr Kieth style mould in .45

You'll need to watch your overall length (OAL) as the R&D cylinder is shorter due to the back-plate.  The current 200gr lead round nose flat points (LRNFP) I'm shooting are 1.580 OAL and fit the R&D cylinder, while the Speer 300gr Jacked Soft Points (JSP) I shoot in my Blackhawk (BH) are 1.670" and too long for the R&D.  I wish the fit and finish of all my BHs were as nice as my ROA.  I have a 30 Carbine BH too that really responds to reduced charges for 2400 (10gr 2400) and cast 115gr bullets.
