?s about Thompson TCR, is it a 83 or 87

this was a gun that was left to me by my Dad, i know its a Thompson TCR but i do not know if its a 83 or 87, it does have the set trigger,

I know more about contenders than TCRs, but I believe that is a TCR '83 Aristocrat (double set trigger and checkered stock).  I have one that looks exactly like it, and that's what I was told when I bought mine.  Just out of curioslty, what caliber is yours?

its a .223 Rem barrel, its only had about 50 rds through it!

You most definitely have an 83 there, the 87 has the single trigger and matte finished receiver.  Fortunately, the 83 and 87 parts and barrels all interchange.  That is one sweet rifle, you will love it.
