Barnes Bullets ??
« on: April 10, 2009, 11:55:51 AM »
Barnes Reloading Manual #4 says the Ruger No. 1 can be loaded with their 300 and 400gr bullets to 4200 to 4400 ME and is rating them for cape buffalo. The bullet is there original and cannot be loaded that hot for Marlin 45-70's.  The only problem I can see is it is a single shot and you had better be fast on the reload in case you make a bad shot.  Are the Barnes bullets that good or are they just blowing smoke?

The Barnes Original bullet isn't all copper so is no better or worse than a bunch of other premium bullets out there.

In my opinion, trying to take a Cape Buffalo or other dangerous game with a bow or a single shot firearm is a stunt.  Typically, the intrepid hunter will shoot and his PH will "collaborate" and take a quick second shot with his double rifle while the client fumbles to reload.  The PH isn't stupid and doesn't want to be killed.

Now if you are doing everything yourself and/or your PH is also carrying a bow or single shot firearm, then I say you are very brave, very stupid or very desperate.

My question only pertained to whether or not the Barnes Bullet was rated to high or not.  Not whether or not anyone was going to take it and hunt dangerous game.  I didn't mean to cause confusion.
