Does anyone know of a web site that has pictures of Spanish artillery carriages from the 1500's to about the 1700's. Looking for colors and styles used in these eras.

1500 I would say that its impossible to find any color evidence from , styles ?? go to the mary rose ship website .

OK I know its an ship , but there are a few carriages there that clearly not are of naval origin , its 10 pages concerning the armourment of the ship . very interesting reading .

when it comes to 1600 and 1700 you find a lot of drawings at arkeliets website : www.arkeliet.net
go to : bildearkiv , there you just click on the book of your choice and you will find every page as an photo , all pages are able to be enlarged that you even can see if an fly have crap at the paper .

for anyone searching for european antique drawings on cannons and carriages this is the best site on the web . this are northern european drawings , but it was the same then as it is today , countries copied eachother and stole ideas and designs from eachother .
cant be sure but there would probably not be any big differences in design .

but when it comes to the spanish colors you should probably send an email to an spanish army or military museum . sorry but cant give you any addresses , try google .

I've been looking into Spanish cannons for many years and haven't found much on carriages of the 16th and 17th Centuries. There are some 18th C. carriage drawings shown in the volume of plates accompanying Antonio De Morla's TRADATO DE ARTILLERIA... of 1816. I found an original at the Library of Congress and photographed all the plates but it is on my "other computer" at the office right now.

You should check Harold Peterson's ROUND SHOT AND RAMMERS since as I recall he has one or two early Spanish carriages sketched in it.

Round Shot and Rammers is an introductory book available from South Bend Replicas, a well-known producer of cast iron replica cannon. It covers artillery as used in the early to Civil War United States, even mentioning some Swedish guns.

Dan, you should also check book sites such as Amazon, Addall, etc. which will probably have copies available, perhaps the original hardback. Addall.com is one of my favorite sources since so many book sellers have their wares listed in one place.

The best book I know of in the English language, regarding Spanish artillery is Brinckerhoff and Chamberlain's SPANISH MILITARY WEAPONS IN COLONIAL AMERICA 1700-1821, Stackpole, 1972. It reproduces several of the de Morla tube and carriage drawings, but the images are not nearly as large as the originals and lose details. These drawings seem to show every single part of each carriage. If you want me to post a couple of those drawings I photographed in the original work, pick one or two of these carriages:

mortar
6" howitzer
24 pr. siege gun
4 pr. field gun
garrison or fortress carriage, 24 pr.

Here's what I have so far. Unfortunately the titles of the plates are in the front of the book and I haven't found my picture of those pages yet, so you'll have to kind of guess what they are for now. I think they are all pretty much 18th C. items, since the book was done initially in 1803 using older drawings they had onhand, I think.

The drawing photos above weren't properly adjusted and looked very grayish when I posted them. Photobucket has a feature where you can edit photos after uploading them, so I adjusted them all for correct lighting, I think they look a lot better now.
