Hey Zachary, Tikka info please.

I'm looking for a Tikka SS/Laminate in .270 for my son. I 'm up in Ft.Lauderdale and would like advice on local or internet sources that provide good service and prices. I noticed you got a real good price on your SS/Laminate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bud

Thanks, Mark. I'll keep my eye on this one. I haven't been shopping too long and want to make sure I check all the sources out before making a decision.  I can't seem to locate any local dealers that carry many Tikkas in stock.

Budz,

I got my Tikka Laminated SS in .25-06 for $575 + tax (if I remember correctly).

My starting point is gunbroker, auctionarms, and gunsamerica.  From that point, if I see a gun I like, then I ask the seller if he/she is willing to sell for X dollars less.  Once I find out who has the lowest price on the net, then I contact local dealers and see if they can beat the price.  Sometimes (actually many times) sellers are not willing to move on the price.  However, sometimes they do.  The best deals are when dealers are "moving their inventory" and actually sell guns at prices below wholesale.  Granted, they may not be guns you want (usually they aren't - that's why they want to get rid of them), but they are good deals.

Take this for example.  I once bought a BDL SS in 7mm Ultra Mag for $530.  That's a good deal.  Not a super deal, but a good deal nonetheless.  About 2 months later, a dealer in the midwest was selling Remington LSS in 7mm Ultra, 338 Ultra, and 375 Ultra for $499!!!   Keep in mind that these rifles usually sell for well over $600 - kinda in the middle $600 range.  Now that was a SUPER deal, but I passed up on it because I already had the BDL SS.

The second best source for gun prices is, well, GRAYBEARD OUTDOORS! :-D  :)  :-D  :)

Fellow members tell us what great deals they get on certain rifles.  From there, any other member, including myself, ask where they got it, and we can get it.

For example, a fellow member bought a gun from a gun shop that was selling Tikka Deluxe rifles in 7mm Rem Mag for $419!!   THAT'S A DEAL I COULDN'T REFUSE.  From there, I asked the member where he got it from, I called the store, and I bought one.  In fact, the gun is on it's way to me.  Unfortunately, this particular store did not have any of the Laminate SS in stock (and thus at those closeout prices).

Hope this helps.

Zachary

Zachary,
Thanks for your advice. I have been checking the internet and picked up my best clues from Graybeard Outdoors, specifically from a lot of your posts on Tikka rifles. My son was considering a Savage or Remington until the sales rep at Outdoor World showed us a Tikka. We were both impressed with the quality from the get-go. Unfortunately they don't have many in stock. As things turned out, I talked to a Berretta dealer down close to Tamiami Airport, late today, who located some in the  Northeast and will get one shipped in for me, and the kicker; he beat all the prices I've seen on the internet. It seems that getting a SS/laminate in a specific caliber takes a little searching.

Thanks again for the good advice.

Bud

Whitetail deluxe for $419- looking?
« Reply #5 on: July 22, 2003, 01:01:26 PM »
Well, I handled a deluxed in 30-06 at my local Gander Mtn. yesterday and I was very impressed.  I am longing after a 7mm-08, however, and prefer the looks and durability of the laminated/stainless, but if anyone knows of a shop that has a deluxe in 7mm-08 anywhere near the price of $419, please let me know, as I will be on it.  They are very pretty rifles, and everything I've heard about accuracy is very positive.

Budz,

I see that you live in Ft. Lauderdale.  I live in Coral Gables (Miami).  I too go Bass Pro Outdoor World frequently - it's a bit of a relaxer for me.

At Bass Pro they have the Tikkas in Stainless Blue for $399, but that's only during the Fall hunting classic and only the 7mag and .300 are available.  That's a great price, but if you really want the laminated SS (which I too prefer) then get it as you will be happier! :-D

BTW, what caliber did you get your Tikka Laminated SS in?

Mark,

I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted the Deluxe in 7mm-08, but the store only had it in 7 Rem Mag.  Yea, he could have gotten the Deluxe in 7m-08, but it would have been for $589 - which is obviously WAY more than the $419 I paid.

I'll tell you what, if I ever find a Deluxe in 7mm-08 for $419, or even a little bit more, I'll buy one and let you also know about it.  That's what makes Graybeard Outdoors such a great forum website - well all take care of each other like family!

Yes, let's keep posting on the site as to deals we find.  This is indeed the best way to do it, helping each other and dealers that take care of us.

When I find one I will be sure to post the particulars and my impressions of the rifle.

Zachary,

I ordered a .270 for my son. It's an early Christmas present so he can get it set up, zeroed, and broke in a little before hunting season. We were going to hit the hunting classic but after talking to the sales rep, it didn't look promising for a .270 or a SS of any kind so we'll just go for the show. The price for the SS/Laminate .270 was $595, not a great price but slightly cheaper than anything I've seen on the web and cheaper than other Berretta dealers in So. Fla.

$595 isn't too bad - it's only $20 more than what I paid.  I'm sure that your son is going to enjoy it very much!
