Budz,
I got my Tikka Laminated SS in .25-06 for $575 + tax (if I remember correctly).
My starting point is gunbroker, auctionarms, and gunsamerica. From that point, if I see a gun I like, then I ask the seller if he/she is willing to sell for X dollars less. Once I find out who has the lowest price on the net, then I contact local dealers and see if they can beat the price. Sometimes (actually many times) sellers are not willing to move on the price. However, sometimes they do. The best deals are when dealers are "moving their inventory" and actually sell guns at prices below wholesale. Granted, they may not be guns you want (usually they aren't - that's why they want to get rid of them), but they are good deals.
Take this for example. I once bought a BDL SS in 7mm Ultra Mag for $530. That's a good deal. Not a super deal, but a good deal nonetheless. About 2 months later, a dealer in the midwest was selling
Remington LSS in 7mm Ultra, 338 Ultra, and 375 Ultra for $499!!! Keep in mind that these rifles usually sell for well over $600 - kinda in the middle $600 range. Now that was a SUPER deal, but I passed up on it because I already had the BDL SS.
The second best source for gun prices is, well,
GRAYBEARD OUTDOORS! :-D
:-D
Fellow members tell us what great deals they get on certain rifles. From there, any other member, including myself, ask where they got it, and we can get it.
For example, a fellow member bought a gun from a gun shop that was selling Tikka Deluxe rifles in 7mm Rem Mag for $419!! THAT'S A DEAL I COULDN'T REFUSE. From there, I asked the member where he got it from, I called the store, and I bought one. In fact, the gun is on it's way to me. Unfortunately, this particular store did not have any of the Laminate SS in stock (and thus at those closeout prices).
Hope this helps.
