Tell me what I did wrong.
« on: May 09, 2008, 05:05:14 PM »
Hi,I put 2 patches in my cva single shot pistol yesterday. It was stuck bad 2 inches from the muzzle.I got the screw to hold in the soft lead, but we didn't have the strengh to pull it out.So I drilled a hole all the way through the ball and I put a cap on the nipple and shot the pistol. All the pressure shot through the ball.I then ground a nail head flat on one side and passed it through the ball .At that point the head caught on the bottom side of the ball, and I pulled it out with pliers.navy

First of all, why 2 patches? Secondly, are you sure you got the right patches for this projectile? I would double check with a sports shop that sell b/p components.

First, were you swabbing the bore between shots?  Wet patch then dry patch then new load.  ie was the barrel fouling responsible for the PRB getting hung up?

Next, why two patches?  One patch should be more than sufficient.  I have double patched balls, but only when I was in a pinch had has some very thin patches available and then only to finish up a match.

When a ball is stuck that close to the muzzle, dribble in a little cleaning solution of oil to soften the fouling around the patch.  A few drops can make it much easier to pull out.  A T handle cleaning rod gives extra grip and strength to pull balls as well.

I still occasionally dry ball a load and have to do something extra to get it out.  I've tried just about everything.  Even pulled breech plugs.
