Who is shooting a 7mm SAUM?
« on: July 19, 2003, 11:20:10 AM »
I'm about to recieve the Remington M700 stainless 7 SAUM I bought.  Just would like to know who all is shooting this round, and what you think of it.

Any handloading advice would be much appreciated.  :D

It seems that the battle-wars with the WSMs and SAUMs have finally revealed the winners and loosers.  Although certainly not official as this is just my observation and opinions, Winchester's WSMs won the battle in the .300 and .270 department while Remington won in the 7mm department.

Interestingly, I have a Winchester Classic Stainless in .270 WSM and just ordered a Kimber 8400 Montana in .300WSM.  However, if (or rather "when") I buy a short action in 7mm, it will likely be the same gun you are talking about - the M7 SS.  Actually, I would really like it if Remington came out with their Mountain rifle LSS in the short action 7mm - that would be one heck of a combo!

I threw together a few rounds today to break-in the barrel. An assortment of 150 gr. Nosler Solid Base BT's, 160 gr. Speer BT's, and 160 gr. Speer SP's over WXR. Shoot/clean/shoot/clean, etc for the first five rounds, then I fired four in a row, cleaned, then fired my last five shots. My 13 shot group at 100 yards was 1.78" for the assortment of loads. Staight outta tha' box!

BTW Zachary, I'm fitting a brown laminate from my 700 LSS Mtn. Rifle (260) onto my SAUM.  Should be one heck of a combo indeed.  :D

That is going to look SWEEEEEET!   If you can, take a picture of it and show us how it looks like.  Will the small M7 action fit into the LSS stock?  I guess that you will have to glass bed it?

Zachary, if you could post the pics for me (I'm dumb  :D ), that would be great.  I will be done the stock work by early next week, so pics would soon follow.  I have the Model 700 stainless, not the Model Seven.  This 700 came out last winter, some shooters still aren't aware the SAUM's are being chambered in anything but the Seven.  And yes, I will be glassbedding it.

Actually, I'm kinda dumb when it comes to those things too.  I think that you need some kind of a software program installed to do it, but I'm not certain.  Perhaps another member can help us out.

I really would like to see your gun when you get finished with it.!
