A low Price, but Accurate .22

Having gone thru all of the stages of gun ownership concerning 22 revolvers and pistols, from the dirt cheap to the disgustingly expensive, I have found two that I keep coming back to and use a lot.   One is a Ruger MarkII that shots under 1" at 25 yards with 4 different LR ammo brands.  The other is the old Ruger Single Six Convertible.  It will hold 1 inch groups with 2 different brands of LR ammo.   Love them both as they have never given me a moments problem. Have shot coyotes, skunks, possoms, etc. plus tons of rabbits and squirrels.  I also have a Taurus with 4 inch barrel that will shoot about 2" groups at 25 yards but I mostly keep birdshot in it now to shoot snakes.

For now I think I may give this .22 NEF revolver a try. It looked really nice and felt great in the hand. I just wish I can find some more info on it. Are the nef and h & r pistols the same? Also is there any place on the web I can check blue book value.

If it is like new and only $158, BUY!!! I don't know what prices are like in you area, but in central Kansas I haven't seen a better deal. When H&R went bankrupt, it returned as New England Firearms. Haven't heard that the quality suffered. It's not a Ruger or S&W, but treat it right and you'll have a decent gun for many years. It's certainly a good way to get started shooting.

 I just had to send my Ruger single six 22/22mag in for repairs (been in storage for 20 yrs) after many thousands of rounds it started spiting lead and cut my face while shooting at the time none of the local gun shops would take it in for repairs. Hope to get it back soon was a good shooting gun.  i almost never use the .22 mag cylinder with a 6 inch barrel you just don't get a lot of benefit for the extra price. sorry to wander but even well made firearms sometimes need work so if it shoots well and the repairs are don't come often it can still be a good gun.

I will try to save some of my next pay check for it. But as of now my buddy turns out to have one of the rough riders .22 that he gave me to have for a couple of days so Ill see how it does. Just because Im curious and its one more gun to shoot.

I shot the rough rider my friend lent me last night. It was a decent gun. I couldnt tell how accurate it was as I only had cans to shoot at but I could hit can after can with it. I kinda sucked to load and unload but other than that I liked it. I think I will really like the nef if I end up getting it. One thing for sure is that it is loud. I deff need some ear plugs next time. My ears are still ringing..

Shooting without ear protection will make sure that soon you aren't disturbed by things like the phone ringing or people talking to you.  I shoot quite a bit, so have plugs as well as some good electronic muffs.  I lost enough hearing over the years, and want to someday hear grandkids etc.

Whenever I shoot my centerfires I always have ear protection in. Always. But when I shoot my rimfires (.22lr and .22mag) most often then not I dont. I figured the revolver wouldnt be that much louder until the first shot. Ouch

go with a 22lr in a Ruger, i saw a 22/45 model at Bass Pro for a pretty good price, i want to say under $300. and i think they have lay-away. Ruger mark-II have been around a long time, check the gun auctions on the net and have one shipped to a FFL in your city. 3 years ago thats how i found my MKII Govt model for less then $275. great bullseye gun!

I think Ill try the NEF and if I dont like it, Ill trade it in on a buckmark. That is my plan as of now.

Well for everyone that has kept up with this post or has made a tribute, I would like to say thanks. I picked up that nef revolver yesterday. Boy is it a nice feeling gun in the hand. The only other .22 that felt this good or better would be the beretta neo. I didnt get to shoot it, but Im hoping to do a little plinking after I get off or work. I hope to post a review and some pictures of it as soon as I can. I think its a keeper so far.
