ruger single six, 3 screw conversion?

i have an older single six that doesn't have the transfer bar conversion. should i have this done? will it decrease the value at all? what do you think? thanks!

I have one I bought new. Have never seen a need to have it changed. Yes, it will decrease the value.

  What he said!  The conversion is a CYA thing to protect them from idiots that dopn't understand the proper technique and rules and for thsoe that are unable to accept responsability for thier own actions.   Load one, skip one , load four and enjoy it!  Likely not a valuable collectable but depending on it's configuration (bbl length, frame/cylinder material and of course condition) it could be.  All that is lost upon the conversion being installed.

I had a single six old model many years ago and sent it in to Ruger, they installed the transfer bar and sent me all the old parts in a plasic bag when i got it back. Maybe that would help keep the value up, if it can be converted back to old model.

  I don't believe the parts are returned now.  Regfardless even a converted one that's changed back is still a converted one and thus looses some value.  They are marked upon the conversion.

Collection value is also dependant upon how much it's shot too.  If you bought it to shoot and want the 6 round loading; then have it done.  Ruger doesn't charge for the conversion and the gun gets a thorough look over and usually any used parts are replaced with the job.  I sent one in for excess cylinder play, that was bought very used and it came back looking almost too good to shoot; all for shippng charges.

i guess i'm a shooter, not a collector. and i want to pass it down to my son someday. i love the feel of it in my hand, especially compared to my p22. wheel guns just seem to have more character and class, IMHO. i'm keeping an eye out for a ruger blackhawk in 357mag.

I don't know your son, but if it were mine I would run down any collectable value, and unless it is something rare I would have the conversion done.  My sons (25 and 30) are likely to handle it well, but I don't know how their kids (not here yet) wold do, and I wouldn't want to take the chance.
