smith and wesson 657, 41 mag question
« on: May 25, 2008, 05:26:02 PM »
I was thinking about ordering a box of 41 Cal. 265g WNFP GC bullets from true shot/Oregon trail. A friend of mine told me they may not fit in my cylinder unless I seeat them deeper than normal,. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this bullet in therre smith if so how does it shoot for acuracy and  was there any problem with bullet length? I don't need load data just whether it will fit in the normal crimp groove. 30.00 for a box of these is not a good investment if they won't fit my revolver.

I just got a .41 but haven`t loaded any for it yet, but I have been rolling my own since 1965. I usually just seat the bullet for revolvers just deep enough so that they function well and never worry about the crimp being in a grove. With most of the ammo I load with bullets that have a crimp grove the grove is well out of the case and no where near the crimp, if I crimp.

Check with Laser Cast on bullet dimensions.  I have used Cast Performance, Performance Cast bullets and factory loaded Buffalo Bore and Corbon ammo with 265 lfn bullets with no problems in my 57, 657, redhawk and bisley.

But I have not used the Laser Cast versions. I think there is a good chance they'll fit. Get the distance from the crimp groove to nose and estimate overall loaded length compared to your cylinder length.

I think the LFN nose is longer than the WFN but I'm not sure.  I think the real problem comes in the Freedom Arms 97 which has a short cylinder.

I have wanted to try the Laser cast as I like their standard bullets but I have quite a stock of CP bullets.

Good luck.
