A-Bolt SA or LA??
« on: July 16, 2008, 05:40:51 PM »
I am going to pick up a A- Bolt for my son that I have had on lay-a-way for my 15 yr old son. It is .270 and my question is, is it long action or short action?  I have been looking at, I think they are called Dead Nuts scope mounts.  They are a one piece mount that seems to be very stable. Does anyone have any expierence with these. I would like to have the rifle set up for him for his 15th birthday. Thanks for the help!! P.S., I don't even have a Browning myself.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The 270 is a 'long action', so the one piece mount may have to be ordered in long action if that is one of the specifics. I have more than a couple of A-Bolts & other Browning firearms. I don't have any one piece mounts, though I have nothing against them. It does seem some can get in the way of the ejection port ever so slightly. Lately my favorite good quality & low cost base has been the Warne 2 piece 'Weaver' style base. Then I usually get Warne rings, usually of the medium height depending on intended scope.  There are plenty of workable choices but that's what I do. Also with the same mounting system on most of my rifles & makes it easier to switch scopes around if the need arises.
