Cor Bon Ammo
« on: June 01, 2008, 12:23:49 PM »
I got this idea in my head and was wanting some input from those who know more than me. I have a 308 barrel that I am going to have cut down to 18 1/2 inches. I was looking around and seen this Cor Bon 130gr Barnes triple shock ammo. So here is my thinking I will lose some speed out of the shorter barrel. So if I was using a faster bullet out of this shorter barrel I should not lose as much speed as I would in say a 150gr or up. I am just thinking mostly out loud but I was thinking about this for the last few days. I more than likely would be able to get by with just 150gr bullet cause range would not be over a 150 yards and the deer I hunt are on the smallish side. I guess my question is will a 130gr bullet out of a 18 1/2 barrel be doing the same as a 150 or up in a 22 inch barrel?

If you are hunting deer, don't waste your $ on Barnes TSX.  At 150 yards, any cup-core bullet will work fine out of your barrel.  The 308 is a very efficient cartridge and won't loose enough speed to worry about.  Have heard of people using the 130 TSX's on Prairie Goats out here.  The extra boost in speed really has them shooting flat.  DP.

There's other 308 ammo with light bullets available too.  ;) But I wouldn't worry about it, shoot what shoots good in it, I've killed a bunch of deer and elk with 180gr bullets out of a 20" barreled 308Win, from 100-350yds, most from 100-150yds, they all died quick!! ;D Shoot the 150gr and be happy, that's what I'd use if elk weren't on the menu, our elk and deer season used to overlap, so I just shot 180s all the time.

I got several boxes of 150gr Federal Power Shok I got on sale back in Janurary for my wifes 308. I will try those first and if it likes them that is what she will get feed. ;D
