Port Gamble Wa CW Reenactment June 21 and 22
« on: June 24, 2008, 07:26:03 AM »
On Saturday the 21st I went to Port Gamble to see the reenactment, the cannons actually. There was a total of eight that I could see and six that I could get close enough to, to touch.
The first one was on the confederate side and next to the road.

The second was a few yards from the first.

Both are 12 pounders and huge, way cool and make my small stuff seem almost like toys.
Two other confederate cannons were further up the hill and my electric scooter couldn't climb the hill mostly because of the resistance caused by the grass so I had to settle for a long distance picture.

On the union side there was four cannons.

The furthest one belongs to Gary Michie, one of the members here.

Gary is a very nice person and a great person to talk with. I wish I had had more time to talk with him but he was busy with the reenactment stuff and I started feeling the effects of heat (not that it was hot but some of the medicine I take makes me hyper sensitive to UV radiation and hot even when it's not). Still I did get to spend about three hours there and I had a great time there. Those full size cannons sure put out a lot of smoke and are loud.
I took videos but 99.99% was not of the cannons shooting and therefore boring.

I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

Jeeper -

Thanks for posting the pix!  They look like cool toys with which to spend a smoke filled afternoon!

Hey Jeeper1,

Do you by chance have any close up shots of the Boat Howitzer?
If you make it idiot proof, then, someone will make a better idiot.

Sorry, I don't.
